Doesn’t look like there would be anything making a water tight connection to me.
So gluing with ABS cement would not make it water tight? I will be waterproofing the entire linear drain.
So the drain will cement into your abs.
Yeah that’s fine, shower drains are typically 2” but 1.5” will work fine for a one shower head set up.
The picture looks like you’re inserting the metal spigot of the shower drain into a 2x1.5” abs bell reducer.

Metal will not glue into abs.
What if I add a 2" piece of abs pipe to attach with the 2" X 2" flexible coupling to the linear drain and then use the 1 2" X 1/2" bell reducer? I am open to a different direction in support of the schluter 32 linear drain.
Schluter is usually good about specifying how it needs to be done - and this setup doesn't look out of the ordinary. Did you check with them?
