Replacing corroded tub faucet

Hello all,

I moved into my home in February and have had a lot of issues with work around the home being done wrong/improperly. Today we had a plumber come remove our tub spout because it was terribly corroded and I didn’t want to break the pipe. Can anyone tell me what the stuff is around the pipe and inside of the hole?

Could be old caulking, or junk accumulated over the years

Screw a new spout on and you'll be all set. Caulk around the spout with tub and tile caulk.
