Hi all,

New here and Hoping for guidance on how to replace my old toilet.

The challenges will be adapting the water input to the standard size and adjusting the shut off valve to allow the toilet to fit (I believe it sticks out too far). The goal is to do this without opening up any plaster and cutting pipes (if that’s what it takes, I’ll move towards hiring a plumber!).

on the valve, is it a gate valve? Also, can I replace just the knob, stem and valve with something shorter without replacing the whole unit?

Thanks everyone!
Matt

I’m not aware of anything. We would cut your wall open. Then we would find no telling what........

That’s a 14” toilet.

You might get away with just cutting a decent sized hole around the shutoff valve, to convert it to a stub out with a modern toilet stop valve.

Hopefully you can abandon most of the supply piping in the wall, and just remove that nipple at the escutcheon and patch that hole.

Or maybe it can be pulled out from below.

It all sounds like work for a pro.

That old toilet might have some resale value, if still in good shape.

Put it on Craigslist.
