We bought a house that was built in 1915 and the bathroom redone in the 50s. Recently, our tub spout started leaking behind it by the tile. We figured it would be a quick spout with diverter replacement. Haha.

The spout removed easily enough but we were left with this shield shaped escutcheon(?) and not a pipe coming out like we would expect. The spout fits snugly over this "shield," the end being the same shape.

The guy at the local big box hardware said that a universal spout would fit on anything. I think he didn't realize there were things like this one!

What to do from here? We are not planning on remodeling the bathroom at all and both sides of the wall are covered with tile.

The tub spout says Crane on it which I know was bought out many years ago. Is there some kind of adapter or something available?? My husband wants to JB Weld it, he's so frustrated.
