This hot water heater has corrosion that is possibly going inside the tank. The HVAC was replaced years after the HWH was installed and is now trapped in the corner. How would you get the tank out if it needs replacing? Or would it just be easier to leave it in place, disconnect the existing lines, and put the new HWH in a more accessible location?

I'll be facing a similar situation tomorrow. Replacing a heater & pressure tank in very tight quarters.
Can't see the bottom of the tank in your picture but it "almost" looks like it could come out "bottom first" by using a strap to pull it until it is far enough out to start tipping it.. Also if it's just the corrosion that's a concern ..... you can buy replacement 3/4 heater nipples and the new style flexible hookups that include a ball valve for the entry side. Biggest concern would be getting leverage to break the original nipple loose in the cramped area.
