Re-Aligning and Sealing PVC into Cast Iron Stack

General contractor working on bathrooms knocked my stack out of alignment. This caused a leak from shower and toilet drainage. He tried to realign and tighten the connection but some tests proved this wasn’t the best fix.



The stack is cast iron transitioning into PVC before it heads to each plumbing fixture upstairs. I’ll include a photo.

Any advice for best way to get this sealed up properly?

The no hub band you have is the best type. It looks like someone tried caulking something?

Take that band off and get a new one. Make sure you have the proper size. Make sure both of the pipe surfaces are clean. Make sure the rubber is installed correctly and uniform in flatness. Tighten the band with a torque driver to 60 pounds.

That’s 60 inch pounds to be clear, not 60 pounds.

Next question will be a dumb one:

can a new band be installed without cutting the PVC? Or will the PVC need to be cut above to remove and add a new band then coupled back together?
