Pump pulsing

Got a Zoeller pump that works. However, the pump is pulsating, that is when it kicks on , it runs to the low point then shuts off. Water drains down from below the check valve, pump kicks on . Then it turns on for a second , shuts off , turns on for a second , shuts off , does this for a couple of minutes , then finally shuts off. Sometimes it works normally. Got me baffled. Any Ideas ?

Might just be a bad switch.
You can buy a new switch for that pump, the top housing comes off pretty easily.
I think that is an M53 Mighty-mate.

The check valve could also be leaking, and so all the water in the discharge line sometimes runs back into the pit.

Thanks for the info .The pump is just over 5 years old , so could be the switch . I replaced the check valve a few months ago.
