It’s a 4” ductile pipe cracked.
I had to dip my head down to reach the break

God that water feels good 🤓

Waiting for the ER bureaucracy to turn their water off…

Edit: 6” ductile

Our local city doesn't let us turn the water off when the water mains break, unless they are able to be completely isolated.

Got it.

This 5” sanitary combo with the missing c/o plug was taking most of the water. That made the Repair much easier. We had to cut out & replace the cast combo to make the water repair.

Water was off for about 1 hour.
Glad it’s done! 😅

I thought I deleted this picture.
I’m starting another coffee shop in another high rise. Looked again & found it to show the GC how the kitchen must be piped to meet code.

Can’t you put some kind of plastic box on there, like a catch basin for a yard drain, to receive those three drains?

Helped service again tonight. Just got home at 2:30am.

3” galvanized water main busted a hole putting a 6 floor office building out of commission. We used two Hymax compression couplings & 7’ of a fresh 3 galvanized pipe 14’ aff.

Service manager said he had stainless slide out of a Hymax once & doesn’t approve using it, even though it’s the same OD. He said the stainless is too slick and stout, that the galvanized gives the Hymax something to bite into. Galvanized or brass.

Using it today I noticed only the rubber was against the pipe, not the metal of the coupling.

@Jeff Handy , what you suggested is the best alternative I can find on the internet. Thank you.

@SHEPLMBR , Any building 4+ floors must only have cast iron in any floor penetrations, wall rough & above ceiling. Anything non flammable is permitted. It’s actually fire codes before plumbing. Cast iron porcelain coated floor sinks are used in these cases.

I would use the plastic floor sink for any light commercial buildings. Thank you.
