I'm trying to unscrew the round cap from a push-button diverter on a shower. The trim is chrome-plated, and there's only about 1/8" of it to grab. (Like trying to grab the end of a chrome pencil eraser.) What's the best tool for the job? I don't want to damage the finish.

Thanks!

Most caps are pushed/snapped in, Not screwed, unless it is a very old faucet.
Got a picture of it? if it is chrome and smooth it probably wasn't designed to unscrew unless it's big enough to use a strap wrench

Mr_david -- yeah, it's odd, but it really does screw on. (And it's not old.) I know, because I'm the one who screwed it on.

frodo: thanks for the idea. I'll try that tonight. Not sure if it sticks out far enough to grab that way, but maybe...

do you have any hemo-stats. also called roach clip. i guess people pick up roach.s with em. i dont know why you would want to. i just step on em.

they are small enough to grab it.
