I got a new bradford white water heater installed by a contractor about 6 months ago. I plan to do my first water heater flush ever. (My previous heater was never flushed and it died after 11 years) I watched some youtube videos on this.

My water heater has a Pilot mode. So I should be fine moving my temperature control to Pilot, then after the flush, moving it up to my desire temperature right?

I don't need to turn off the gas and then re-light the pilot light right? I am just making sure to not make a messy for a seemingly easy job.

Are there some "obvious" details I should pay attention to before attempting to flush the heater?

Just turn the dial to the pilot position and then do your business.

After the flush is then turn it back to the desired temp.
