We put in a new bathroom sink & faucet about six months ago. Noticed when running cold water there is a "rotten" smell. Replaced the aerator and didn't help; replaced the plastic supply line and smell was gone....for a couple of months. It's back. It's only when the cold water is turned on after not using it for a while and only in the bathroom sink. We cannot figure out what is causing it. We have well water, softener and whole house water filter. Any ideas where this could be coming from? TIA.

what does the water smell like at other fixtures sometimes the rotten egg smell relates to your hotwater heater take a water sample to your local water dept

It doesn't, your way out there bud. Please say if you are on city or well water. If you are on well, it would be evident in every fixture. If you are on city. We need to find out, why this fixture is different.

Yes, we are on well water....only comes from cold water in bathroom. Kitchen and shower are fine. Thank you for responses.

What brand faucet and does it have flexible lines coming out of the body or do you hookup to 1/2 male threads?

So you say, "It's only when the cold water is turned on after not using it for a while". So may I assume the smell goes away after running it a couple of minutes? Dead ended or stagnated lines can turn septic or bad when the water contains some traces of certain impurities. I would have a sample of both the good water from another faucet and one of the smelly samples tested.
