The gas valve assembly took a crap on the 10 year old tank that we had, so I went to Home Depot and picked up a Rheem for $470 and installed it. First time I've ever hooked one up.

Looks great. Installed mine in 2004 so I’m not far behind ya. Tic, tic, tic.

Looks like some galvanized in the gas supply line.
Some areas don’t allow it.
But at least there is a drip leg to hopefully catch any bits that flake off.
And it must have passed inspection years ago.

Meanwhile, soldering looks pretty, and cool little home-made clamp for the gas pipe.
But that little 1/2 inch wood piece might be prone to splitting.

Is that some kind of a universal joint on the yellow gas line to the furnace?
Either that, or it’s bent, can’t zoom in for a clear look.
