New cartridge for Delta Monitor 1300/1400 leaks

My shower was dripping. I got a new cartridge, Delta 1300/1400 from local store. The replacement is Delta brand, it looked like the one I was replacing. Once I got everything together and turned the water back on it is dripping worse than before. Any ideas what might be going on?

There’s a small chance the cartridge is faulty, also a chance the valve body is pitted. If I were you I would pull it back out, inspect the seals, and feel around on the inside of the valve body for irregularities. If you don’t see or feel anything wrong, try returning it for a new one.

I pulled it out to have a look, didn't see anything obvious, but I think the two halves of the cartridge body weren't locked together well. They twist apart pretty easy. Anyway, put it back, being careful to not let those two pieces twist apart. Seems to be working as expected now, no drips from the shower head.
