I'm looking into getting into a new trade. Reason being where I live in NC I've personally experienced a couple of crooked pumpers in my area, I finally got my problem resolved myself, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. After asking around I have heard a lot of horror stories from others around me. I want to be the guy people can trust when they are in a bind. So I've been doing a lot of research on different systems, trucks, costs, etc. But I have quite a few questions still.

1. What type of truck should I start with? I have seen a few sites claiming under cdl <26,000lbs are the way to go. But I would think tank size would be small and would require dumping after every job.

2. Should I start just pumping or should I go ahead and get an installer, and inspection licenses right off the bat?

3. How much should I expect to for dumping? I've located a couple of treatment plants nearby, but I can not find prices or if they charge a flat rate, by the gallon, or by weight.

Thanks in advance any ideas or opinions would be much appreciated.

If you’ve never worked for or done septic service professionally then I would suggest getting some experience before considering opening up a business.
