Greetings Folks:
We have a dilemma, and are hoping someone here can offer a remedy; or maybe possess some NOS??
The fixtures in our bathroom were made by Harden (which, as you probably know, are no longer made).
Recently, a very minor leak has developed in the cabinet under the sink.
It isn't from the hot or cold feeds, but rather at the mixer. Also, the drain stopper passes through the mixer.
In center of photo, note verdigris area/hex nut--therein lies the problem.
Really don't want to outfit with all new fixtures, as they are in good shape.
Thank you for any help/suggestions ;)

Thank you so much! We are "green" here--lol--can you define what the packing is?

It's the flexible thing that prevents the water from dripping down that shaft. It sits behind that nut, and if you could tighten the nut you might squish it up into the fitting and seal the leak.

Whether it's fiber or string, or rubber or graphite-impregnated cord is a detail, you'll know when you get it apart.

WPNS~We were unable to remove that nut, even after we applied lubricant. The sink has a hairline and we found American Standard still makes that model-so we are waiting for the new one to arrive. At that point we can better attack this hex nut. It looks like a black material is wedged in there. Question: if that is deteriorated is there a place to obtain replacement?

Hard to tell without taking it apart or sourcing a parts diagram for it. It's also possible that corrosion on the shaft has worn out the packing, and you'll need to clean up (polish smooth) the shaft so it doesn't happen again soon.

If the manufacturer is out of business, you might be able to find or make something, or get someone with a 3D printer to make you something out of TPU, but that'll all depend on what you find when you get it apart.

It may have an oring in there…..or it may be a special molded packing that’s not available any longer.

I typically add to what’s there if it’s leaking out of the bottom of that tee. If it’s leaking from the top of the tee there’s another seal there…..

Consider replacing the faucet or you’ll be most likely making washers……Goodluck.
