I just recently bought a house and have had a ton of plumbing issues. This new one is a leak under the bathroom sink. I figured it would be easy enough to fix. However, it appears the reason it was leaking is because the drain (sorry I don’t know the terms) that attaches to the sink was slightly crooked making it unable to properly seal. The trouble I am having is that the drain (piece that attaches to sink) and main sewer pipe are almost right on top of one another. I cannot figure out what pieces I need or how to align them in order to keep the main drain straight and sealed and fit the P trap in to connect to the main sewer pipe. I’ve been to stores/talked with plumbers and still haven’t been able to figure it out. Any help/ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Looks like you have 1 1/2 galvanized pipe coming through the floor. Cut pipe below the nut leaving no threads.
Use an 1 1/2 no hub coupling and offset back with a street45 and back up with a 45.
Put a tee on top with c/o and a ptrap.

So after some googling I understand what your saying to do. My issue is trying to cut a galvanized pipe on a budget. I was at the store the other day and saw a rubber p trap. I think it would give me a little flexibility that I need. What are you thoughts on using a rubber p trap? Any major issues that users have had with them? Thanks

The way bbp said to do it is the correct way. In addition to what he said you should put in an AAV as high as possible.
