My new vanity is much higher than the old one, so I need to move the drain pipe 12" higher.
My question is, should I do 1, or 2/3?

If the bottom of the fixture is within 24" of the top of that existing pipe, you wouldn't have to touch it.

With an allowance for the tail piece and trap, that appears to be an awfully high vanity.
I'm a tall guy :)

The problem is that the vanity has a shelf on the bottom, so there's no room for the trap. Top of the shelf is exactly where the current pipe is.
