one could be to a hose bib. I have had to install them off of a kitchen "loop" before.

It sounds like it may very well be the case.
So how is the kitchen still getting water when the valve is closed at the softener, which shuts down the rest of the house?
Maybe OP should verify waterto the hose bib when that softener valve is shut.:confused:
