Hi,
I realize it is essential to keep centrifugal pumps from overheating by maintaining a flow through the pump at all times. But my understanding is that this is not as important for diaphragm-operated positive displacement pumps. Is that accurate? And if so, is there a relatively simple / non-engineer explanation as to why? Thanks.

A diaphragm pump doesn't spin 3450 RPM to make heat the way a centrifugal does. Low flow may not hurt the pump, but restricting a diaphragm pump to low flow will cause the pressure to max out and the motor to draw high amps and overload.
