Jet pump storage - what do I need to do to store the pump properly?

Hi all,
I've just replaced a Goulds J7 deep well pump with a newer J7. I want to keep the original pump though and rebuild it (not sure it really needs that) and convert it to a shallow well pump to use for irrigation and whatever else.

Until I can find the time and motivation to do that, what should I do to store the pump properly?

Of course you can pull the plug at the bottom of the pump and make sure it is empty of water. Jet pump/motors have ball bearings, which don't store very well. They are sealed bearings and cannot be greased. But they will pit if left sitting in one position for very long. Motor warehouses have a person hired to spin every motor on the shelf about once per month. You would probably be alright to just spin it once or twice a year. But if you don't spin it once in a while, it won't spin in a few years when you need a spare pump.
