Hello,
I have found a crack between where the PVC line connects to the cast iron pipe that exits the house. I have replaced it with a new PVC pipe (see image attached). I have two questions:
1) Is PVC the best material for a pipe underground?
2) What is the best way to insulate this pipe? I live in Ottawa, Canada where the freezing ground depth is 4 feet. This pipe closest to the house is only 3.5 feet deep and then closest to the septic tank it is only 2-2.5 feet deep. (see the picture attached). I have read about putting a 4 foot wide, 2 inch thick piece of styrofoam to prevent freezing. Thank you for your expertise.
