I am installing a Kohler under sink water filter, and unfortunately already purchased the wrong fittings once. I am looking for some guidance on what 2 (or more) adapters I need to get this thing hooked up, thanks for your advice.

The water filter is pictured below. The instructions state “This system connects to a 3/8” (9/16”-24 UNEF-2A) compression connection. Special fittings may need to be purchased to accommodate other connections.”

It looks to me like if the lines were reversed it might connect? The big plastic nut in the last picture might screw onto the supply valve, and the brass fitting with the male threads might screw into the knurled female fitting. Where the blue lines go into the filter it looks like there might be release collars?

There are supply valves for 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 and 5/8" connection hoses. It is much better to install that than to use an adapter. The fewer connections under a sink, the fewer problems you will have in the future.

On my last installation of a faucet, I noticed the connection to the cold inlet of the faucet was 3/8" compression fit, and the supplied hose was meant to connect directly to the shutoff valve. It looks like your Kohler filter uses connectors tailored to Kohler faucets. Best advice I can give you is to visit a plumbing supply dealer who can sell you the adapter to mate with your faucet, whatever brand it might be.
