Hi

I have a 1959 house that has a sewer cleanout inside the house. We recently found that there are roots partially blocking our sewer line where it meets the city pipes at the street. Our old pipes were replaced through pipe bursting, so, the majority of the run is relatively new pipes.

The guys that filmed the pipe recommended that we install an outside cleanout near the exterior foundation and then hydro jet the roots.

We have lived here 23 years and never had a problem.

Questions

a) Is it best to install an outside cleanout if we're going to hydro jet?
b) Is it a bad idea to hydro jet from inside using the old cleanout?
c) Should I first try one of those foam root removers?

Thanks for your wisdom!

Frank

Having a clean out outside is the best option only because if there is a stoppage you can open the cleanout and let the drain on the lawn then snake or jet from there
Jetting requires lots of water at high pressures if the drain isn’t clear you will get water out of the cleanout
Have never used the root chemicals but I think your drain has to be clean of them I think it’s more of a preventitive maintenance
