Input water line shut off knob

I just need to know if right turn is turning off or is left turn? I want to think right, but I'm not sure.

Righty tighty, lefty loosy. Problem is when is one is left handed, working upside down, and under the legs. That seems to always be my problem.

Is the handle plastic???? Hard to tell,sometimes the valve gets stuck from not being used, usually you can gently turn the handle with pliers ....but if it's plastic just wrap a face cloth around the handle and try turning by hand

Loosen the packing nut slightly, turn the valve off then snug the packing nut back up.

Thanks all. I just had never turned it off and I tried to the right first, but could not tell that the in put into the toilet tank stopped running. So I was not sure what was happening. It's only the first time it's been messed with since new (1997). But with your help, I was able to get it done.
