We tried fixing our tub that had a small spout leak, but after putting it all back in, since Home Depot did not carry our stems, the water now gushes out when all handles are in the off position.

first, can you tell me what brand this cold stem could be. The water leaking is hot but thought we should replace all.

could we change something to make it go back to a trickle to at least be able to keep the water on for toilets and such? Trying to get a plumber out sooner rather than later to replace whole system if need be.

don't bother having a plumber come out.
send them a pic.
Some results would depend on what resources you have locally.
There are still a few distributors nationally that carry old stems, but you need help from a plumber or a plumbing wholesale/retail person.
Send pics, you won't get benefit from anyone showing up.
Also, useful for catalog browsing, total length of the stem and the length of the cartridge end too.
Do show the trim in a picture or two as well.
The working end of that assembly probably comes apart; there may be a washer within that assy.
Looks like off brand junk.

We had a local plumber come out. He added shut offs to the hot and cold lines behind the tub so we could use water everywhere else in the house and will be converting it to a one handle system.
