how did the water get from the water tank to the washer?

you did not do it correctly , you never flushed any damn thing you only moved water .

13 gal kitchen trash can filled from the bottom of the WH, with a short hose, about 10 times until the water cleared visibly. Then from the trash can each time several 2 gal buckets carried the few feet to the washer to empty that trash can. Each time turned the new water valve on to stir up the water remaining in the tank. I did see it visibly clear each time I drew water off into the 13gal trash can. So I figured something was improving. Later I took a large clear class of hot water from the sink. Let it sit and then later spoon stirred it up. I can't imagine it being any clearer than it was.

you you never got to the bottom of the tank where the shait is.

you absolutely have to empty, as in no mo h20 in the tank to get to the shait in the bottom

you did nothing but move water around

the pump, you decided was useless, was to get all the water out of the tank.

once all the water is out, THEN you can get the crap out

thru the drain hole with a long screw driver or wire
