Hi, 2 years ago we had a well known Water Softner company place a system in for us, we spent around 2500 for installation. Apparently they drilled a hole into our cast iron sewer vent going up through the roof, slid the drain down that hole a bit and siliconed it. Well it slid out during a cycle and dumped 50-100 gallons of water on top of our ceiling which than proceded to destroy our wood laminate floors and ceiling drywall. We had also been experienced intermittent sewer gas smells and could never figure out why. My understanding is that drain should never been placed into a sewer vent...what as a home owner would be your next course of action with this company?
