Gas pipe too close to servce panel

Doing a house raise they failed electric because inspector said my gas pipe needs to be 3 feet away from the service panel. Never ran into that before. My electrician friends say hes making it up. My gas inspection passed.
 
I’m not sure the three feet is to the piping. But, it is still probably a good thing to do, in case the line leaks.
 
Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but this seems to be for the meter regulator vent clearances not piping in general.


You are not reading it wrong, it clearly says the gas regulator vent.

and the gas regulator is attached to the main gas line that stubs up out of the ground
the meter is attached to it also. so is the gas pipe from the house
all of this is within that 3'
36'' in any direction, that means 6' from center left,right and in front of
gas_regulator_vent.png
 
What’s that regulator on the right side for? Might need three feet to the right of that also.
