Hi : I haven't any plumbing experience so please bear with me. When I turn off the kitchen cold tap (which is directly from the mains), all hell breaks loose. There's an horrendous foghorn noise. The only way to stop it is to leave the tap trickling. The cold tap in the ensuite sink upstairs is also fed from the mains and it interacts with the kitchen one. One makes the foghorn noise or even both of them at once when using one or the other. Any ideas to what's happening? Thanks.

Thahks. I'm not in a position to,get pics just at the moment. The kitchen faucet is a mixer and the ensuite faucet is a single cold one, the hot being a separate tap. Not sure if that's any help.

Loose washer can be in either faucet, or in cold shutoff supply valve feeding either faucet.

Also, make sure cold shutoffs are fully open.

Also check shutoffs for toilets.

Also could be something chattering in the water meter, or main water shutoff valve.
