I'm installing a new shower base and drain. When I fit the base down with the drain attached, the waste pipe is not flush with the drain. It fits within the drain hub but it about about 1/2" below the hub lip. Is that okay? I will solvent weld the pipe and hub but it is on a slab so I can't check for leaks once installed, so just want to be sure that the pipe doesn't have to be flush against the hub.

you need to be using a no caulk shower drain NOT a glue on drain

sioux chief, it is a 827-2b brass no caulk shower drain, then you will have to buy separately the square strainer
the body is the same for the round one
Okay thanks. We have the drain plate. I started with a similar one but the top of the assembly didn't sit flush with the base and stuck up too high for the plate to fit. I'll try this one. My pipe is definitely too low for this one though, so I will have to refit it first.
