First time homeowner attempting dishwasher install. All instructions I've come across include water supply line from the sink. I've got a copper pipe that comes through the floor right under the dishwasher. I don't see any shut off valves in the copper pipes in the basement. Do I need to shut off water to the entire home? Probably going to call a plumber, just trying to figure out my home! How unusual is this setup? House built in 1985, oil fired water heater.

Yes, they screwed you.

If you don’t have a valve some place that controls that pipe individually then you’ll at least need to turn off the hot water to the home at it’s source valve. Or you can turn the main water off to the entire home.

Then you’ll need to install a stop valve, 1/2” inlet x 3/8” compression outlet in the basement . From there you connect your new dishwasher.
