I have 3 of these shower/tub faucets in my house. Need confirmation that I have identified it correctly, as a licensed plumber is coming by to either replace the cartridge, or gut it with a new faucet + rough-in kit.

The cartridge seems to match the RP1991 but I have also seen images of the 36004 that are a dead ringer for the RP1991. The escutcheon photo has Scald Guard in raised lettering on the bottom half of the part. Thank you in advance for your help.

If worse comes to worst, and we need to gut the faucet completely, what is the best (not cheapest) modern replacement, i.e., brand and part number. I have lost faith in Kohler, and would lean toward Moen, Pfister, and Delta, in that order. I'd like a roughin kit with stops to save my family from headaches and downtime in the future.

I cant see your pics but with pics and model numbers a plumbing supply house should be able to help not sure of the age of your shower valves but delta is a good product and parts are mostly available
