Could You Review My Whole House Softener Installation Concept ?

Hi, there.

The water quality of my house is not good.
.Hardness: ~ 10 grains per gallon, TDS: ~ 300 ppm, Piping: 1 1/4" CPVC, 50 psi
.3 ~ 4 adults only, 3.5 bathroom

My plan is to install a salt-based water softener with this concept.
It is the first install and want to start basic softener but want to install robust and flexible piping if possible.
Any idea or comments ?

.1" copper piping after CPVC reduction (1 1/4" to 1")
.3 way bypass valve and pressure gauge
.~ 30,000 grain capacity softener with 8 gpm rate service flow rate

Sorry for the mis-representation of black thick line in the diagram.
.The black line is copper piping and it will connected to softener inlet/outlet connector (green line) : Main piping diagram is updated now with green line added.
.The red line is for drain lining.

Are you commenting on drain connection (red line in the diagram) ?
.If yes, it will be connected to bathroom sink via air gap as in the attached drain fig.

Actually, I did not understand her question. Was it for draining or softening itself ?
Either case, my answer is "no". Please let me know if I misunderstood her question.

1. It is on the main incoming water softening. Thus, not on the septic.
2. For draining, it is not directly connected on the septic.
Rather, it is connected to bathroom sink via air gap.

Oh.. hmm.. I am very new to house maintenance.
.Just moved one month ago and 1st home owner.

Anyway, if her question was to ask if there is a septic tank or not.
My answer is also "No". I live in townhouse and I pay sewer bill.

There is some belief that the salt discharge can damage a septic system.

I don’t know if an air gap can go underneath the sink.
I thought it had to be mounted at the level of the sink deck.
I would expect some reason for flooding if installed down there.
Pros on here can advise.
Isn’t there a laundry sink or sump pump basin you can drain the softener into?

Unfortunately, there is no drain sink in the garage.
.They even installed water heater overflow discharge drain pie through drywall to the outdoor.

In my understanding, it seems that two things are important.

1) Air gap length of 1 1/2" is important to prevent back-flow from sewer line.
.It prevents dirty water flowing into softener system and only flooding dirty water
would happen if back-flow pressure occurs
(i.e fireman pulls water with high pressure while softener under regeneration process).

2) Also, the level requirement (if required for air gap) may be measured from the main
p-trap drain pipe level not sink deck.

Note) Waster softener draining is just up to 2 gpm maximum.



Anyway, thanks for comments and I'll wait for Pros' comment as well.
