My existing 2000 gallon concrete cesspool requires pumping twice a year and should be replaced. The cost to have a 1200 gallon septic tank with three 4' x 8' concrete rings is $6500. As an alternative I am considering converting the existing cesspool into a septic tank by installing a tee onto the existing cesspool inlet pipe after it enters the cesspool and adding a tee onto the outlet pipe before it leaves the cesspool? From the outlet of the existing cesspool which would now be a septic tank the outlet pipe will be connected to a new leaching pipe consisting of three 4' x 8' concrete rings with a dome. Compared to the $6500 for a septic tang with three rings converting the existing cesspool to a septic tank with overflow to the three ring leaching pit would only cost $1700.
