We had been having trouble with our sewer pipe backing up (all the way to the bathrooms), and the plumbers we hired told us that as part of the repair process we needed to have the water in our catch basin pumped out. They charged us $1,600 for this, and the cause of the backup was later found to be a belly in the pipe.
We have reasons to suspect that these plumbers are unethical, and are now wondering whether they lied to us about the catch basin. It seems as though the catch basin has nothing at all to do with sewage coming from the home, but is instead part of a completely separate system for removing rainwater from the property.
Could there have been a good reason to have the catch basin pumped out?
