Clanging pipes and no hot water

Hello,
First time poster. Hopefully someone can help me out. Moved into a house last year built in the 50s. Noticed when we do anything with laundry, dishwasher or backup sump pump runs and the cold water line is used it rattles throughout the house. Not only that but when I try to use hot water after that it turns on but after 5 seconds nothing. In order to fix it I have to go turn on hot water at the laundry tub in basement and all is fixed. Anybody know what the issue may be and how i can fix.

The laundry and dishwasher have solenoid valves they open and close quickly you can buy hammer arrestors
That thread on to the hoses in the laundry, and you can buy a hammer arrestor for the dishwasher , more than
Likely there is a check valve that’s banging after the pump cycles you need to explain the second part a little

Are you getting no water at all, or no hot water unless another fixture is used
