Hey Folks,

We had a sewage gas leak, so I pulled of the toilet and opened things up. Here you see the toilet vent cracked, which goes back into the wall and up (the sewage line goes down). It is very tempting to just replace that section with ABS, and then stitch it all back up. Alternatively we do tons more excavation and replace everything. What are thoughts here? For a little more background, all the sewage lines Out of the house are pvc, which we put in 10 years ago.

Thanks Folks!

if cast iron is in decent shape I wouldn't rip if out unless you
want or need to remodel I would cut out the crack and maybe
cut In a clean out so rather than pulling your toilet to snake
you can use that ....just a thought

I

just looked at the bottom pic again change as much as you can

that wye is flaking and there is duct tape on the other fitting

Piece of mind

If you can't get a snap cutter around the pipe use cast iron

sazall blades .... Don't buy he or lowes stuff they will wear out

fast

You could cut above that bell and put a coupling from old cast iron to abs then redo the water closet run in abs and change a little bit of that vertical pipe stack. I would redo in cast but the choice is yours!
