Hi all, prepping for all the cold weather last week in Austin, I came across this pipe but have no idea what it is for. Closing the valve does not seem to effect the water or gas (in the house). Love some feedback from this group of experts on its task. Could it be the gas feed to my pool heater?

That looks like a gas valve.

I was going to say, it could lead underground to a gas grill, gas yard lantern, fire pit, or detached garage.

Pool heater sounds very likely.

It also looks totally corroded, the coating is gone, underground probably much worse, time to replace with plastic.

I can’t make that leap from the pic. I wish my customers thought like youz 👍
