I was replacing the tub drain and the cross member the wrench holds on to sheered completely off. How do I get the old one out without causing damage to the tub or the PVC pipe?

Thank you,

Eric Hubbard

Try using just the blade from a hacksaw. Saw thru the strainer, being careful not to go all the way through. When you get close, use a screwdriver to bend the cut area in towards the center.you mayou have to make two cuts an inch or so away from each other.

there is also a tool out there.....don't know the name but it looks like an easy out goes right on were those cross braces would be if you did a search for removing a broken tub strainer you may find it

Yep, use the link above or the tool can be found at Lowe's or Home Depot. That tool is a God send! A few taps with the hammer and add a 1/2" ratchet to spin the old piece right out.
