Best way to drain dishwasher

Water will back up from the drain the dishwasher drains into, which means a mess under the sink. I would prefer water to back up into the sink to avoid water in the cabinet and to also make me aware of a frozen pipe. I’ve attached a photo. Would it be better to drain the dishwasher into the disposal? There is also a drain into the wall behind the disposal. Thanks!
 
Drain it into the disposal and it will come up the sink. I don't see the disposal drain in your picture.
 
Connect to disposal like Tom said. cap off drain going into wall.
Dishwasher drains should have an air gap but not all jurisdiction require them.
