hi all, have just installed a new septic tank system, (single 1000 gall. tank for all waste) and has been running happily for family of 3 for one month now
To ensure long trouble free service what should I do often/occasionally?
Have noticed a robust odour (seriously cheesy - like cheese cheese) from the breather pipe - normal? Have heard happy tanks don't smell...is this true?
Commercial additives/yogurt/bicarb any use?
Measuring and adjusting pH at exit, sounds reasonable, like for a pool only for bacteria

Any advice much appreciated

My advice would be to let it be. A good level of bacteria will grow on it's own without additives. The smell should start the balance out, although will not go away.

Have been trying to find some authoritative info on the workings of a septic tank but so far found nothing
