Can someone help me with this. The brass nut is going to be the end of me (nut not currently on). I’ve tried teflon tape and it still leaks like a sieve. Can you help me figure out what it’s purpose is and how to keep it from leaking?

You don't need Teflon tape or anything just the caps twowax linked to. The rubber seal in your cap has rotted out.

Awesome! Thank you so much! I had a feeling there might have been a rubber seal in there at one point.
