This is for fun, and not scientific at all. I hope it will also allow other parts of the country to weigh in on what they charge for one specific repair job.

I am a homeowner and have 1/2" copper going to my toilets. I noticed my toilet stop valve , which is currently using a compression fitting is leaking, and need it replaced. I as the homeowner, want to replace it using a quarter turn type as shown below. Since my 18" flexible stainless supply line is also old, I'd like it replaced.

I call your company and you schedule it, and will drive out tomorrow and will replace it as your first customer of the day.

How much will you charge, considering you have a 15 minute drive time from either your house or shop?

(by the way, I had my plumber come to my house last week with the stop valve and supply line in hand, and his typical price is $140, which included removal of the old stuff and replacement of the new stuff) chrome-plated-brass-brasscraft-shut-off-valves-g2cr19x-c1-64_400_compressed.jpg stainless-steel-homewerks-worldwide-supply-lines-7233-12-38-2-64_400_compressed.jpg

Havasu, for professional discussions, I prefer Plumbing Zone.
Basic service call including drive time: $250.
If the job was really close (5 minute drive time) we would only charge $200.

. Your talking 30 minutes of physical labor. If and you better know what your doing. The 15 minutes there and back with $17.50 in parts. $140 is touching my high side. That’s having a little trouble removing Ferrell. Low end would be $125. Yeah I have $3m in liability. 19 years experience and licensed. But only a small truck with minimum parts tools. But I have no secretary or wharebouse guy.

I'm in Nashville and that would have cost around $125.

Sry 40 miles south of Nashville. I could get $200 in Nashville and still be a hero. Hiller would be the one to thank. They might get to $400. If you don’t buy the service plan.a little off track. But I just installed a rinnai 65 natural tankless. Had to rerun 3/4@ gas about 30’and replumb hot and cold about 10’ electric was close. When I arrived at 8:30. Old tank was still in use. When I washed my hands at 12 old tank was on my truck and tankless in use. Total bill was $1975. Parts were $1350ish. Added an hour for twice coming to relight old heater waiting on tankless. And an hour for disposal of tank and off site work. Buying parts making phone calls. Customer was aware and couldn’t write check fast enough. That smiley face truck estimated $5879. But we’re going to finance it at $30 a month. And I back the manufacture warranty with labor.

I’d charge about $150.00 but I’d use a multi turn angle stop. Ive seen the stem on the 1/4 turn angle stops break after a while.

Mississippi $175.00 for a scheduled visit with 1 man 1 hour
    if unscheduled, $275.00 1 hour 2 men

I do not use braided supplies or 1/4 turns
we use chrome supplies bent with a bender, and full turn angle stops

That service call from me, and if I’m supplying the parts would be roughly $120cdn plus tax

Frodo, my Ridgid 3/8" bender is for sale on Ebay, in case you need a back-up.
Selling because I'm retiring, not because I don't like it.

Back in my day, I used a spring bender and a Lockridge tool for those. Now I just use the flexies like everyone else.

Havasu, can we add to this thread and go on subject of new work also? What’s counted and price per that count. Like us. I get $475 per fixture. A fixture is 2 water and a drain. Toilet gets a hydrant thrown in to make 2 water. Dishwasher and fridge count as 1. We use expansion pex with brass fittings. Schedule 40 dwv pvc for drains. Includes everything needed to install your fixture you bring on site. Foundation to foundation. Dirt work is bid seperate. Add $50 per stub up for concrete prep. Remove $25 for ideal 9-10’ basement. Add the $50 back for taller basements. (Had to limit the basement after my first 20’ tall in back and 6’ at lowest)

@Rickeyman, it’s been a while since I’ve heard “lockridge tool”. Man I loved that thing I looked around for an old one in the shop but couldn’t find it. I’m going to be 159.00 for that repair, parts and labor.

Ditto. You can date yourself if you HAVE a beading tool. Some young pups may know what it is but unless they used one doesn't count.
We use the poly braided hoses now . The stainless steel braided hose can splinter and actually puncture the tube.

We won't install your stop valve or parts. If we do, NO warranty.
We use the 1/4 turn Dahl. Those 1/4 turn BC from HD are crap. small stem and the break off in your hand when you try to turn off an old on.

    $123 using your parts.
    $160 with valve and supply.

Question: When replacing the angle valve or any service shut off valve... do you have to replace the existing ferrell?
