Anode rod material - which should I use?

Our house is located in southeast Michigan and has a private well. The water from the well has a total hardness of about 30 grains per gallon, about 2 PPM of iron, and no detectable smell. The water enters the house, passes through a filter, passes through the water softener, and then enters the water heater (a five-year old, gas fired, AO Smith model).

Question: What is the best material to use for the water heater anode rod?

I found several piping errors on Mr Haynes website and sent him notification of the errors.

This was 3 years ago. He’s since corrected the errors.

Not everything you read on the internet is correct.
