Hi everyone. I recently moved into a new home. I redid 1 bathroom including a brand new toilet. The other 2 bathrooms remained as is.

In all 3 of these bathrooms, we notice a bad smell coming from the toilet bowls. I wouldnt describe it as pure sewage or rotten eggs, but it is a foul odor.

Some other details:
It’s much more pronounced in the 2 old toilets, rather than the brand new toilet.

None of the toilet tanks give off any odor.

We connect to a city sewer system, not septic.

Any thoughts as we try to solve this mystery?

Thanks so much!

Lift the tank of the toilet. What does the water look and smell like? You state you are on a city sewer. Are you on city water or a well?

Tanks dont smell. And now that I think about it, it’s mostly the older bathrooms w the odor. It’s the bowl themselves.

We use City water

Look under the rim of the base of the toilet. There should be many little holes which flush the sides of the bowl when flushing. Sometimes they get clogged and/or mold builds up under the rim. You may need to use a small mirror to inspect. If so, scrub with a pumice stone.
