    Repeat broken pipe

IMO "WyrTwister" is on the right track. It is amazing how water/air can be trapped in a line In 2015 I was re-plumbing my entire house. Had no end of trouble with failing joint, in an almost impossible location (with an under floor crawl space of 18 inches). Good advice from this forum advised...

    Should I buy a MAP/Oxygen kit ?

When the other-half tidies up I cannot find anything, and nor can she. Everything goes into any available drawer. Our telephone table (2 drawers) was chock full of laundry clothes pegs, 4 pairs of scissors, untold old paid bills, unpaid bills, enough paper for a couple of phone books (remember...

    Should I buy a MAP/Oxygen kit ?

You recycle the cotton ball ? I really like the tambourine idea ... I dont have any sisters or even daughters except for one 44 year old step daughter ... an economic opportunist and all out bludger. Maybe I should learn to play the violin or a drum kit ... or get me one of those 6ft...

    Should I buy a MAP/Oxygen kit ?

About 15 years ago I built a BRICK man cave. When the car was displaced from the (single space) garage for ... ... unwanted table lamps (stained and rusting), ugly chairs past their use-by-date, a new lawn mower that was a dud (where as my beloved 7½hp Briggs and Stratton still starts on one...

    Should I buy a MAP/Oxygen kit ?

Married !! I have been there twice, (17yrs + 8yrs respectively) and not very good at it. Now with number 3 for 22 years. And we still like each other. We got as far as an engagement ring about 17 years ago, (my idea) but when she developed a nervous twitch in one eye ... I guessed that...

Gases for soldering - MAP vs LPG vs Propane

I am in Australia. Leaded solder has not been outlawed here ... well, not in my state (yet?) In the city I live in there are about 10 plumbing dedicated retailers, and only one knew of lead-free solder ... and they have only one plumber who buys lead free. I only learnt of lead-free...

Gases for soldering - MAP vs LPG vs Propane

My typo ... should read "tin/lead" ... sorry about that :o So C-Flux is ok for lead-free soldering ? Thanks for the reminder too. A good specs sheet.

    Should I buy a MAP/Oxygen kit ?

Yesterday found a new MAP/Oxygen setup for sale at au$120 ... in our local testosterone store. - (new, including bottles, genuine USA , not Asian manufacture) - a bargain considering the kits are normally au$499 I know if I don't buy it I will need it --- and if I do buy, it will gather...

Gases for soldering - MAP vs LPG vs Propane

OFF TOPIC Plumbers knee -- in one of them -- knees that is ! Getting olde sucks ! The mind is willing but the body is weak -- and then there is always tomorrow. Crawling over broken bricks, pieces of terracotta roof tiles, broken bottles, and unidentifiable sharp bits took their revenge on my...

Gases for soldering - MAP vs LPG vs Propane

@ frodo :) Thank you for clearing up my confusion over LPG vs Propane. Did a lot of homework last evening until 1am -- into gases. Found some good history info and Youtube comparing MAP gas and Propane/LPG. - and properties, limitations, Different countries/cultures use different expressions...

Gases for soldering - MAP vs LPG vs Propane

I have a Bernzomatic MAP//Pro torch and (yellow) MAPP gas bottle. I have been told I can use the MAP gas torch with LPG/Propane gas. - but not a LPG/Propane torch with MAP gas. I am confused as to what is the difference between LPG and PROPANE ... if at all. I haven't been able to get...

    Failing copper joins during soldering

APOLOGIES Sorry I have not replied to ALL of you before today. My wife has just had her third lot of major surgery for cancer. For about 6 weeks I have had to put all my time and energies into nursing her and being a house-husband. Not an easy time for either of us. And then about 4 weeks ago...

    Failing copper joins during soldering

I might be past my use-by-date BUT some things I have never forgotten. ;) Same as you. Top fitting is female, second is male. I did track down a Tee from a local supplier using the web ... - only problem is this one points up, I will have to locate a "pointing down" version :D ;) - after...

    Failing copper joins during soldering

I will have to be more patient. In the confined space, so many times I have bumped a pipe and compromised the just finished join.:( I also suspect the MAP gas is heating more material, keeping joints hot and at risk of failure for longer. Waiting for the work to cool is like watching paint...

    Failing copper joins during soldering

Thanks Matt30 :) I was considering compressed air to clear a line but assumed too much pressure into the instant hot water unit (gas hot water) might compromise the heat exchanger. ie a lot of energy in a burst of compressed air. ? I have a commercial wet-vac -- your idea is a good one --...

    Failing copper joins during soldering

Just read a thread Soldering copper pipe in tight location- Help Needed Pics included dated Sept-2012. johnjh2o post has got me thinking. Butane/LPG is no where near as hot as MAP gas ? I suspect the failed dry joint is the result of too much heat (for too long). - my LP bottle is not a self...

    Failing copper joins during soldering

My pics -- of the problem. - my apologies for poor quality pics under floor very cramped confined space. Pic_01 Pic_02 Pic_03 Pic_04 Plumbing has to be up high, because I have to get into underfloor of the wet room - ie the black void in distance (ground to bearer 14inches) - some...

    Failing copper joins during soldering

Thank you havasu :) I checked my pics sizes Bytes + dimensions. They were way over size. - I also attempted a PDF with just pics but it was too large. Now (3:15pm our local time) is first chance I have had to think about the soldering problem. About to fiddle with pic sizes again and I will...
