    Help needed to identify faucet

Here's my non professional practical advice having messed with trying to find parts like this (and get suckered into doing it again and again and again each time). This looks like a bathroom sink. If it's not critical to be operational then start by trying the shutoffs to see if they work...

To Ferrule or Not To Ferrule

This debate comes up for me occasionally in maintaining a home and a few rentals. When I'm replacing a compression based shutoff sillcock with a compression ball valve, is it ok to use the old compression nut & ferrule already in place? This compares favorably from a time stand point vs...

Pipe Condition and type of pipe?

Can anyone identify the type of pipe this is and give a general set of thoughts about the condition of the pipes? Seeing wet soil below but it appears these clamps which look very new have been put on to mitigate it. I don't quite follow how they would do anything. I didn't see any actual...

Moen Single Lever Handle (screw out) but won't budge.

I think the intention of their instruction was as a method to break it loose a little albeit that was confusing, hence why I asked and posted the parts diagram. I was waiting for someone to say this is the reverse double secret handshake for it. Yes it definitely received whacks with a mallet...

Moen Single Lever Handle (screw out) but won't budge.

At the end of the hub where it was thin and I cut it, it did not get near the cartridge. The residual piece that wouldn’t budge was still on the cartridge so I first figured I’d be doing the bear thing as you said (as if I damaged it). That piece however came off with penetrating oil (which I...

    Smart Shut Off Valve

If it is a vacation home, have you considered simply shutting off the main water supply each time you leave, or are things like sprinklers dependent on it? I'm not sure on the downside but I would think that would be the safest course of action because: 1) no one is using the water, so why...

Moen Single Lever Handle (screw out) but won't budge.

Thank you all for your thoughtful replies & research! A special - re-mention on the bottoming out on the handle puller. My handle puller couldn't bottom out but I had actually had already thought of that and utilized a common nail that I cut the point off of. The one I used was BrassCraft and...

Moen Single Lever Handle (screw out) but won't budge.

I emailed Moen, and they were great - responded less than 24 hours and figured out this is a CASTLEBY model. Their instruction says to undo the handle hub by unscrewing it going clockwise with a strap wrench. So far however, no luck. Just figured I'd share. Has anyone heard of unscrewing...

Moen Single Lever Handle (screw out) but won't budge.

The photo shows where I've gotten so far. Screw & Handle are out but the rest of the assembly won't budget. There is no set screw best I can tell. When I feel around the part of the handle that's left there is one area with 2 metal tabs. I tried pushing and prodding but it didn't do...

How to remove this gas fitting?

Thank you for the help, it eventually turned.

How to remove this gas fitting?

Long story short, I am trying to cap off this gas line in addition to having it shutoff at the hex key valve on the wall. The unit is no longer going to be used. It appears there are two reducing fittings. I can’t seem to get the bigger second one shown off. It looks like someone painted the...

Torch and fuel for brass hose bib to copper

I've had to replace a few copper pipe to brass hose bibs lately and have a hard time getting them undone. I'm using basic propane and torch setup and my technique has been to cut the brass hose bib off or partially off using an angle grinder with diamond wheel. Otherwise it seems I can't get...

Small leak after main shutoff on the way to pressure regulator

Brilliant! (The prv unscrew to drain). That tip is definitely worth the $39.95. :)

Small leak after main shutoff on the way to pressure regulator

Upon further inspection, I think it was leaking on way into pressure regulator. I tightened it a touch and placed a paper towel under it and no water so far. Now on to my other pet peeve the silcock valve hose bib. It's brass and I believe soldered in on the copper T. How do I know if it's...

Small leak after main shutoff on the way to pressure regulator

Here are photos of the entire assembly including T (copper not brass), hose bib (brass soldered) and a closer look at the hose bib which is leaky when open but fine when shut (hence why I figured of go repair that while I'm at it)

Small leak after main shutoff on the way to pressure regulator

See picture attached. It looks like just a connector piece that is independent of the shutoff and the regulator. Any thoughts if this may just be easier to let a plumber do it as the entire house's water will want to drain back past the regulator right? I'm assuming shutoff main, disassemble...

The Newest Greatest thing for plumbers!!

So the first ever toilet I replaced was a Kohler One Piece. As a DIY'er I had no idea until I read your post that it was practically the only one piece toilet where you can see the bolts. I had picked that toilet because of a shelf/counter that extended over the tank so height was at a premium...

How to snake past single screw overflow plate

Tried to find the Erickson drain auger but couldn't locally, so ended up with the 25' basic with drill attachment from Harbor Freight. This auger had a smaller tip than other augers and it worked through the overflow plate flawlessly.

    Slotted thread cleanout cap removal

Crowbar worked. Fit better than chisel and pipe wrench. Thanks for responses.

How to snake past single screw overflow plate

Been there already with similar contraptions that go 1-3' -- it's deeper. About a gallon or more run freely before it starts to slow down, but it does drain.
