K pipe is great to use, just thicker then L pipe. I use k copper on medical gas lines like oxygen wag and co2, the pipe sometimes I stuffer to get it into a fitting but over all if u have it and wanted thicker pipes use it. Just more expensive.

I use a 4.5 but I have also used what we call a pencil grinder that has a 2.5 inch disk also

I agree that shark bites are a temporary fix. I do use them for all stub outs on sink, wall mount toilets and sinks.
