Worried about sweating kitchen HOT feed. How dangerous?

I have a pipe junction that was rusted at my own home and I wrapped the joint with steel flex tape thoroughly and its lasted 10 years so far. I know plumbers are always eager to rip everything out and spend a fortune but I think something can be said about not poking the bear in an old...

Copper Sulfate, "ZEP" root killer and corroded pipes

Take a look at this video, and what copper sulfate instantly does to metal: How is it then, that pouring this stuff - ZEP/foaming root killer, down your galvanized steel drain pipes, regularly, as recommended as a root killing preventative, doesn't corrode and eventually destroy them?

Starting a water boiler (to heat house)

I got a hold of the manufacturer (Weil McClain) and they said since its self starting they didn't think it was necessary, she could just walk me through the startup. However the very first thing she asked was, "What does the pressure gauge read?" and I said 80psi. She said it should be 20...

Starting a water boiler (to heat house)

Does it have water in it. Well, there is a water intake tap valve in the center, a green lever. With the boiler I have at a rental, you just leave the water tap on to fill in case it ever needs additional water (to prevent it ever operating while running low) Page 12, the startup...

Starting a water boiler (to heat house)

Have just moved into a new house, which has a Weil-McClain (GV90+) "Series 2 Gas-Fired" water boiler and radiators throughout the house. It is of course, winter and they're needed. Its self starting, and relatively new. The previous owner absolutely demanded that I get a hold of his favorite...

Looking at a house to buy- water leak under slab

It has to be general because I have no idea where the actual leak is of course, and no right to start digging to look. Of course I do know its AFTER the city meter, as they have it shut off (at the manhole cover, in the ground) and its not leaking. So I can quite easily go out to the house...

Looking at a house to buy- water leak under slab

Looking at a house for sale that has been on the market over 4 months. Riskily, I contemplated making an offer to buy the property as-is to get a better price. But why hasn't it sold in over 4 months? That was the nagging concern. To my (complete) surprise, after indicating I was interested...

    Roots and sulfuric acid?

Well you're going to get the standard answer from just about every help forum to call a professional, but then what good is it to have the forum at all if everyone just does that from the get-go? I'm fully willing to support the city's plumbers and do, but I really can't afford to call them...

    Roots and sulfuric acid?

I dunno. http://www.ccohs.ca/oshanswers/chemicals/chem_profiles/sulfuric_acid.html Losing my nerve, lol. Then again, I just got a plumbing quote of $490 "to start". Anyone have any thoughts?

    Roots and sulfuric acid?

The main sewer line is blocked. I have rented a 75 ft electric pipe snake but could not get to the main line (the buildng is concrete slab, and the only access is through the shower drain. It would not bend through the trap). However, I WAS able to reach the plug wih a 50 ft handheld...

    Bizarre bathroom faucet malfunction- sabotage??

The 'poo' you see is pipe dope. The new sink fixture came with built in supply hoses that were too short to reach the hot and cold feeds, so I had no choice but to attach extensions. The attachment in the picture is a brass double ended male thread. The sink and fixtures are all new and have...

    Bizarre bathroom faucet malfunction- sabotage??

Just had a second bizarre incident. Today I came to the apartment building to find the other downstairs apartment bathroom was full of water, 1" deep, same as the first. This time, the line was suddenly dribbling at the spot where the hot feed line was screwed together (see attached pic, where...

    Bizarre bathroom faucet malfunction- sabotage??

Well, as I said I installed the faucet and it came all in one piece, there was nothing to do incorrectly. It simply fits in the hole, screws on from the bottom and attaches to the water supply. No one has the key to the apartment except me and its vacant and completely empty. It has only...

    Bizarre bathroom faucet malfunction- sabotage??

I installed this faucet brand new as well as two others in a triplex (3 in all) about 7 months ago. This apartment was only rented for a few months by one renter who left on bad terms, a real whacko who threatened to sue etc etc. She turned in her keys but I didn't change the locks yet as there...

Venting washing machine drain through side wall

BTW Neoprene boots don't last as long as lead, but get these comments on this roofing talk page and the quick fix for a neoprene repair if the seal ever weathers out. It sure seems like a 10 minute fix for 10 years. Keep it simple stupid, right? Thoughts...

Venting washing machine drain through side wall

Its got rolled asphalt strips, one over the other. I have a relative who is a roofer, he said to cut a U in the asphalt shingle, pull back and put a neoprene boot under that sleeved around the 3" vent pipe, and seal top and bottom. He didn't think it was that big of a deal. Going out the...

Venting washing machine drain through side wall

I'm wondering about the cost effectiveness and future problems of putting another hole in the flat roof, plus having to drill a vent hole in the concrete block wall to vent the dryer.... maybe I should just eat the original $500 loss and just take it out. Its just one more thing for the City...

Venting washing machine drain through side wall

He's making the case that he 'tried to save me money by doing it cheaper'. The side of the building is concrete block, which would be a deal to drill through anyway. It seems fairly simple to go through the roof, its already on the 2nd floor, just don't want to put another hole in a flat roof...

Venting washing machine drain through side wall

Purchased a 3 unit triplex in a borderline neighborhood as a rental, which I've been slowly renovating in my spare time. Its not a very large building, in fact the two downstairs units are basically efficiencies, one or 2 rooms each. The upstairs is a two bedroom family unit, the 'suite'. I...

    Ruined by plumber :(

How much of a difference would that make in the long run? Because I'd prefer to let sleeping dogs lie if I can. If I get in there next thing you know I've got a cracked main line. And its not leaking now. I'd be glad to brush and paint though. That can't do any harm.
