    Thank you, Sir!

Bar of soap fell down shower drain

Must I try to get it out or will it eventually dissolve on its own? Was a little less than a third of a standard bar yet a good-sized chunk. Had the top off the drain as was cleaning it. Oops! :(

    Antique

I know little about plumbing but had surmised that the toilet would probably best be installed in a new build as surely the innards would not be standard. Yet it would seem there is even more to it than that. The consignment people informed me of requisite "1.6 flush" and intimated that it...

    Antique

Well Matt, as you're the first to have responded in any way, I suspect my piece, much less my quandary, is of little interest. I have come upon an interesting shop here in the Seattle area -- Old and Elegant -- that will take the toilet on consignment with a price of $2K. Which is amazing...

    Antique

I am 70 years old (when did THAT happen?!) and downsizing. Am I correct in imagining there's no real value to this unit? It was given to me by a late cousin who was a costume designer in Hollywood and who in that capacity regularly came upon interesting vintage items out of Twenties-era...

    Spray

I think to let you know, Frodo, that in the end Signature Hardware was unable to come up with the requisite replacement cartridge. Yet by no means did they abandon me. Rather was I offered a new faucet with sprayer for 50% off. Definitely impressed and appreciative. Thanks again for your...

    Spray

NO WAY! My plumber didn't even contact Signature Hardware?!!! I have an old email from him in which he explains that his research has yielded no H-40 cartridges but that he would be looking further and thence getting back to me. Next thing I heard I had to purchase a new faucet, one that as I...

    Spray

Yes, Frodo. Belatedly do I grasp that faucets do and do not come with sprayers. Plumber simply told me that the cartridge was kaput such that I'd need to purchase a new faucet. I did think to ask him for cartridge identifier(s) before he tossed the unit and he came up with H-40. Said he...

    Spray

Thank you both so much for proffering counsel. I bought both faucets from Signature Hardware, their honorably living up to their warranty. First snapshot reflects first faucet that worked beautifully with the sprayer. Second snapshot/faucet, no spray. :(

    Spray

When I built my house I had a spray thing and soap dispenser installed alongside my kitchen faucet. Over time that faucet's cartridge died such that I had to buy a new faucet. Sadly, too late did I learn that the spray unit can not work with the newly installed faucet. :(( Really bummed as...

    Vintage pedestal sink

Kinda rethinking, given all this chat. Meanwhile here is Mr. Walter Parker's counsel, in essence: THANK YOU, Mr. Parker, for your fulsome counsel. You have spirit in addition to experience. Good show. Several on the forum have asked for follow-up so with your permission I shall...

    Vintage pedestal sink

Wow People. You are wonderful, providing advice as you are. I have now heard from Walter Palmer, the Old Plumb Fixer. Had to smile. He comes across as, um, spirited, indeed so delightfully spirited that I think not to share his counsel on this public forum, if you receive my meaning. :)...

    Vintage pedestal sink

Thank you, All. I shall pursue The Old Plumb Fixer and otherwise.

    Vintage pedestal sink

Hi :) I bought this pretty unit several years ago from a prominent Seattle store selling architectural salvage . . . which is to suggest surely it should work? Yet contractor tells me its innards preclude my using it in my brand new hundred year olde house. I'm wondering if contractor and his...

    Hygrometer

Thanks much for the specificity, Chukar. Again, very helpful.

Thanks for the input, Chukar. How far north am I? Puget Sound.

    Hygrometer

Is a hygrometer a plumbing tool? In truth I do not know. Am just a landlord here in the Pacific Northwest (think rain) challenged by a tenant who is nothing if not cavalier about keeping the heat up to where I don't have to worry about MOLD. He cleans anything obvious before I arrive to...

    Desperate for help

Thank you all for your fine counsel. I am now in search of someone solid even tho the original plumber makes noises to the effect he's trying to figure out what to do. The leak detection service too sounds good. A) I need to find a pro but then B) I'll need to be able to persuade the...

    Desperate for help

Two years ago I built a new, hundred-year olde English country house with which I am very pleased overall. Sadly, however, from the very getgo, there has been a leak. It's not massive but it is steady and it will preclude my ultimately turning the downstairs into living quarters much less...

    Unlacquered brass

Thank you for the encouragement. I had indeed thought to look further and meanwhile will hope to hear from others, as you suggest. .
